Your Eyes, Our Care

We educate our patients on the proper care of speciality contact lenses.LipiView© and LipiFlow© by TearScience© Tear Lab© Osmolarity System

Dry Eye is a progressive disease and without treatment it can worsen over time. Lipiflow, that is backed by over 25 years of scientific research can treat your dry eye symptoms with its revolutionary technology and bring comfort back to your life.

We are the only TearScience© practice in the Okanagan involving a three-part comprehensive evaluation for dry eye.

Dry Eye Lifestyle Questionnaire

Our Optometrists will perform a series of evaluations to determine the likely cause for your dry eye, you’ll start by completing a Dry Eye lifestyle questionnaire, which is a brief assessment used to determine how your eyes feel on a daily basis. If the questionnaire shows your dry eye symptoms are more than mild or are beginning to affect daily activities, the Optometrist will schedule you for a LipiView and Tear Lab evaluation.

The Tear Lab Osmolarity System

The Tear Lab Osmolarity system is intended to measure the osmolarity (amount of salt) in human tears to aid in the diagnosis of dry eye disease in patients. It is a non-invasive procedure that involves using a TearLab Osmolarity test card, in conjunction with the TearLab Osmolarity System, to collect a sample of tear fluid from the eyelid margin. After the sample is collected osmolarity is calculated and displayed as a quantitative numerical value.

The LipiView interferometer is the first device of its kind that enables eye doctors to assess you tear film by capturing images that measure the thickness of the lipid (oil) component. This process is non-invasive and takes about 5 minutes. Next, is a closer look at what’s happening at the gland level. With the use of the Meibomian Gland Evaluator™ your doctor can examine the quantity and quality of lipid (oils) being released from your glands.

The TearScience© Evaluation

The TearScience© evaluation is part of your overall Dry Eye Assessment. Knowing what is causing your Dry Eye will help determine the best treatment option. After your assessment is complete, our Optometrist will discuss your treatment options. One approach to treating dry eye symptoms is a new procedure called LipiFlow which is designed to treat the root cause of Evaporative Dry Eye, blocked Meibomian glands. Opening and clearing these blocked glands can allow them to resume natural production of lipids (oils) needed for a healthy tear film.

The LipiFlow Treatment

The LipiFlow Treatment is a non-invasive procedure which involves placing a Thermal Pulsation Activator (eyepiece) on your eyelid. The Activator uses patented, precisely controlled heat applied to the inner eyelid with adaptive pressure encouraging your body to resume the natural production of lipid (oils) needed for your tear film.

Imagine doing the things you enjoy, without worrying about your eyes. LipiFlow© could be your first step to dry eye relief.
